Patricia J. Shevy
is the founder of The Shevy Law Firm, LLC, of Albany, New York.

Tricia focuses her practice exclusively in the areas of estate planning and administration, elder law and business succession planning. Tricia also maintains a satellite office in Schoharie, New York.

Tricia believes in the teamwork approach and regularly works with her clients and their investment advisors, bankers, insurance agents and accountants to ensure that the plan meets the client’s long term objectives.

Tricia is an active member of the New York State Bar Association- Trusts and Estates Section (Life Insurance and Employee Benefits Committee) and Elder Law Section (District Delegate and a member of the Medicaid Committee). She is also a member of the Albany County Bar Association (Continuing Legal Education Committee), National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys and Schoharie County Chamber of Commerce.

Tricia’s past public service includes serving on the Boards of Directors of Childs Nursing Home, Albany County Correctional Facility for Children’s Benefit and the Watervliet City School District Board of Education, serving as president for 3 years. Currently, Tricia is on the board of directors of The Bus Stop Club, Inc., a support program for the siblings of chronically ill children, and Rensselaer County Housing Resources Corporation, an affordable housing program offering free mini-home repair services to the elderly and disabled in Rensselaer County, serving as its president.

Tricia earned a Bachelor of Science in Management-Finance from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 3 years. Following graduation from RPI in 1994, Tricia received her Juris Doctor, cum laude, from Albany Law School of Union University in 1997, where she was a member of the Justinian Society.

Tricia routinely lectures to small groups regarding estate tax planning, long term care planning, estate planning issues when disabled children are involved as well as the unique issues of estate planning for non-traditional families and small business owners. Tricia also lectures and writes for continuing legal education programs offered by the New York State Bar Association and other providers of continuing legal education programs as well as Albany Law School’s annual Senior Citizens Law Day.



Melissa L. Byrne
joined The Shevy Law Firm in 2008. Melissa focuses her practice in the areas of estate planning, estate administration and elder law.

While majoring in legal studies with a minor in political science at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut, Melissa played Division I basketball in the NEC Conference. After graduating magna cum laude from Quinnipiac University, Melissa attended Albany Law School where she graduated in 2005. While attending Albany Law School, Melissa was editor of business for the Albany Law Journal of Science and Technology. After graduating from law school, Melissa worked for 3 years as a financial planner for an international firm where she was involved in the analysis and implementation of financial and retirement plans.

Melissa is a member New York State Bar Association and Albany County Bar Association. Melissa is also actively involved with North Colonie Co-Ed Basketball League and Rensselaer Association for Retarded Citizens softball team.


Abraham Dorsman
is the principal of Dorsman and Dorsman, a small Albany law firm with its roots dating back to the 1950s. He is of counsel with The Shevy Law Firm, bringing more than 25 years of experience in the areas of residential and commercial real estate, business planning, estate planning and elder law. Abe graduated from Gonzaga University School of Law in 1979. He is a member of the Albany County Bar Association and the New York Bar Association.


Diane K. Skotnicki
a paralegal at The Shevy Law Firm, has worked with Tricia for over 5 years. Diane has a Associates Degree in Criminal Justice from Hudson Valley Community College and a Bachelors of Arts in Sociology and Criminal Justice from SUNY Albany. Diane has particular experience in assisting Tricia with estate planning and Medicaid applications.


Timothy W. Nelligan
the office administrator, has a Bachelors of Science in Chemistry from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Tim has significant experience in information technology and stock transfers as he previously developed dividend reinvestment programs for an international stock transfer agent.
